so the man,k of course, had work of his own to do and while he was doing such, sent his slave off to tend to her own duties....several ahn later, he got to wondering about how she was getting along and went looking for his prize

...at this point, everyone in the laagar knew what had happened except him, and everyone was watching to see what he'd do...he coaxed his little princess from under the wagon and was shocked at the sight of her..."how did you get so filthy? what happened to your silks? your collar? who attacked you?" as he was asking all this, the girl began to cry....mumbling through tears "oh, my Master....they said i had to feed the sleens, so i took a bucket that was given me to them and tried handing them chunks from the bucket, but they started clawing! that's waht happened to my silks....i screamed and threw the bucket, adn a watching outrider told me that buckets were valuable and that since i'd broken one,k it'd have to be paid for, so he pried a jewel from my collar and said that ought to cover the cost." He was shocked and asked what else had happened to make her cower under the wagon

...the silkie continued, sobbing, "Master, i tried to serve one of the Mistresses, but she dropped the goblet because she said i had made it slippery to anger her and it broke....and she said it had been a very costly crystal goblet....and so she expected repayment....so she pried another jewel from my collar"....she paused here to sob and wipe at her face, smearing dung on her cheeks and nose..."and then when i asked what i could to help, the slaves said we needed dung gathered for the fire"....here, teh man began groaning, because he was beginning to sense the direction of this story

..."they said, Master, to make sure i got the best dung....so i took a big bucket and went ut to the bosk to collect it....and i know how fresh things are usually better, so i gathered the freshest piles i could find, dumping them into teh bucket for the fire...but i must have upset one of the bosks, because it started snorting at me and was goign to charge....one of the men pushed me out of the way, but the bosk scratched his arm open with its horn, so..." she paused to sniffle more, hiccuping... "he said i'd have to pay for the healer because i'd put his livelihood in jeopardy...and when i said i had no money but would ask you, he said another jewel would do nicely, and pried it out"...the man sighed a little and strroked his girl's smelly hair, telling her to go get a bath and tomorrow would be a new day....so while she bathed, he went to talk to the other Alar

...he asked everyone of the camp if he'd seen who had done such awful things to his girl, but they were beginning to suspect that his soft Arian blood was coming out, so all banded together and avowed innocence...he thought about this for a time, and believed his family....so when she was cleaned up, he took his little silkie princess to the furs, but she was far too shaken to perform and he began to think that maybe this was a bad idea...he was used to alar girls that clawed him to pieces while he took his pleasure, not girls that lay there becaue they were upset and soft....he fell asleep considering his dilemma

...the next morning, he told the girl to go make friends with the other slaves, determined to make this work....so, in her torn silks and formerly jeweled collar, she went off to try to make friends....teh alar slaves, of course, sneered at her and chased her off....but she, like her Master, assumed theyw ere jealous of her, so she pranced aroundn a little, tryign to get the men to notice her...but the men of the laagar were busy preparing for their day and not at all interested in teh creature they'd all tricked so cruelly the day before....runnig otu of men, she finally asked a Mistress if she could help her with her work, because it looked like she was sewing, and that was something she was able to do
