The messenger calling Laird to the other camp of Kassars turned out to be from Rinah Kesh. The previous Ubar had deserted the camp for reasons of his own and it was left floundering until Laird took over. He assumed the role of Ubar and placed his worthy slave in the role of first girl, expected to train slaves and handle matters regarding them.
Life in the camp was tumultuous. Many came, many left, and life was continued fluctuation. Laird's affection for ti'gra grew, but with his stoic personality, the words were never given to her, despite her knowledge of the feeling present. She was never far from his feet, ever devoted, ever loving.
At one point, he had purchased for her a small jit monkey, as he was often away from camp and knew her loneliness ate at her. The monkey, eeyore, gave her boundless pleasure and companionship for the many nights she spent alone in his wagon.
There came a day when r/t matters interfered in the happiness of the pair, and Laird put his treasured slave up for sale. He requested a beginning price of one DWGT. Many men sent bids for her, all eager to own the delightful slave, and considering the price worth what they would receive. In the end, he refused them all, unable to part with her just yet. But r/t matters continued to plague them and one night, with grief in his soul and tears flowing from her eyes, he Freed her, supplying her with clothing, kaiila, and coin, and sending her out into the world with her papers of manumission...and with an utterly shattered heart.
